Cardrona is famous for dry snow and gentle runs which makes it the perfect choice for beginners to intermediates. With a base elevation of 1670m and a vertical rise of 390m, Cardrona ski field covers a massive 320 hectares. The terrain caters for 75% intermediate and beginners with the advanced runs making up the remainder of the field. Kids love Cardrona! Various lessons are available for all ages and abilities from as early as two years. Beginners classes, the ski and snowboard school and the High performance centre will suit families of all ages and abilities. The junior centres are licensed early childhood centres and provide classes such as “Kids Korral”, “Ski Korral” and “Kids Club” for ages 3mths to 14 years respectfully. There are two ski packages to choose from and both include lift tickets, lesson and rental equipment. The First Timer package is designed for the learner skier which is restricted to the beginners slopes. The Achievement package provides unlimited access to the mountain and caters for a relative novice right through to the experienced skier or boarder. You can hire up the mountain with the option of dropping off in Wanaka or Queenstown at the end of your ski holiday. Cardrona offers a choice of on the mountain accommodation. There are luxury fully self contained studios for couples or two and three bedroom apartments which sleep up to eight. Alternative accommodation can be found at nearby Wanaka just 32kms from the skifields. There are 5 cafes on the mountain. Choose from the Base Cafe offering a huge range of fast food and beverages or order a freshly made juice, smoothie or coffe from the Juice and Java Bar right next door. For a sit down meal try the Mezz Cafe for a restaurant lunch and an excellent range of wines and spirits or ski right in to the Noodle bar for an on the spot freshly cooked asian delight. Enjoy The Captain’s Pizzeria, on the other side of the mountain for sheltered outdoor dining and a great view. The season at Cardrona is 26 June to 4th October. Operating hours are 8.45am – 4pm daily. The average snowfall is 2.7metres and there are snow making facilities on selected parts of the field. Base Facilities include a Medical Centre, lockers, a card phone and public email. The Snow shop, full rental services and Snowfoto – ( on mountain photography of you and your family ), ensure your time spent at Cardrona is well catered for. The tiny community of Cardrona at the base of your descent is home to the famous Cardrona Hotel. Built in 1963 it has been completely renovated while still retaining its quaint mountain charm. It is considered a popular spot for skiers and provides meals and accommodation. Nearby activities include The Cardrona Adventure Park, Monster Mountain Monster Trucks and the Snow Farm. Heli skiing is a popular pastime and operates regularly from both Queenstown and Wanaka. |
